Welsh Rugby Union outlines timeframe for plan to cut a west Wales region
The Welsh Rugby Union has outlined its timeline for reducing Wales's professional rugby teams from four to three by the 2028-29 season. The WRU confirmed in April that it intends to retain one team each in Cardiff, east Wales, and west Wales, meaning the Ospreys and Scarlets will compete to survive as the sole west Wales region. The two rival clubs, led by Mark Jones at Ospreys and Nigel Davies at Scarlets, now face a battle to secure their future.
