Why a return to Sepang is a 'golden ticket' for Formula 1 drivers

Formula 1 is set to return to Malaysia's Sepang International Circuit for the first time in nine years, with the venue replacing Bahrain as host for the Bahrain Grand Prix in the 2026 season. Sepang previously hosted the Malaysian Grand Prix 19 times between 1999 and 2017, and was regarded as a landmark facility when it opened. Ten drivers currently on the F1 grid have previous racing experience at the circuit, which is known for its flowing layout, overtaking opportunities, and challenging hot and humid conditions.
