Why F1 cars won't run active aero in Monaco
Formula 1 cars will not use active aerodynamics during the 2026 Monaco Grand Prix weekend, with the FIA deciding to designate no straight mode zones at the circuit. The active aero system, introduced as part of the 2026 rules package, allows drivers to flatten their front and rear wings to reduce drag on straights before reverting to a raised position for cornering downforce. The FIA determined that Monaco's layout does not meet the criteria required for straight mode zones, including a reported 'three second rule,' despite some locations such as the start-finish straight previously being used for DRS activation.
