Why it will “take years” for Cadillac to reach the level F1 rivals are operating at
Cadillac's Formula 1 team principal Graeme Lowdon has acknowledged it will take years for the new entry to reach the competitive level of established rivals, drawing parallels with Ferrari's Jean Todt era and McLaren under Andrea Stella. The team joined the F1 grid at the start of the 2026 season, having begun recruiting in summer 2024 — giving them only around 18 months to secure facilities, staff, and build a car. Lowdon noted that Cadillac faces a steeper challenge than the last start-up team, Haas, which benefited from rules allowing extensive outsourcing to Dallara a decade ago.
