Why the Spanish Grand Prix is special
The Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix moves to Madrid in 2026, where a new purpose-built 5.4km, 22-turn circuit called Madring will be constructed around the IFEMA Madrid exhibition centre and Valdebebas. The circuit replaces Barcelona as the race venue and marks a return to the Spanish capital, which previously hosted nine World Championship rounds at the Circuito del Jarama between 1968 and 1981. Madrid-born Carlos Sainz has become an ambassador for the event and has expressed ambitions for the circuit to become the best in the world.
