Wimbledon to stay free-to-air until at least 2033 after new deal with BBC
The BBC has signed a six-year extension with the All England Club, ensuring Wimbledon remains on free-to-air television in the UK until at least 2033. The new deal was announced on Thursday, ahead of the Championships beginning next week, replacing an existing agreement that was set to expire after next summer. The BBC's relationship with Wimbledon dates back to 1927, when it first broadcast radio coverage from SW19, making it one of the broadcaster's most valuable live sporting assets alongside the men's football World Cup, European Championship, and Olympics.
