Wings' Sandin-Pellikka hoping improved 'D' can land him back in NHL

Detroit Red Wings defenseman Axel Sandin-Pellikka is working to improve his defensive play to secure a roster spot for the upcoming NHL season. Last year, the 21-year-old played 68 games for the Wings, recording 7 goals and 21 points, but posted a minus-20 plus-minus rating — tied for the worst on the team. He was sent to AHL affiliate Grand Rapids after being made a healthy scratch following the trade deadline acquisition of Justin Faulk.
