With backs against wall, Yanks rally in 9th to beat KC for 11th straight time
The New York Yankees defeated the Kansas City Royals 4-3 on Monday at Kauffman Stadium, with Anthony Volpe delivering a two-run single on a 1-2 count in the ninth inning to complete the comeback. Bobby Witt Jr. had given Kansas City a 3-2 lead with a leadoff homer in the eighth inning off Jake Bird, but New York rallied against closer Lucas Erceg on an infield single by Paul Goldschmidt and a double by Jazz Chisholm Jr. before Volpe's game-winning hit. The victory extended the Yankees' regular-season winning streak against the Royals to 11 consecutive games, the longest such streak against any opponent since New York won 12 straight from Boston across the 2019-20 seasons.
