With Utah up and Michigan middling, the Utes appear to have won the Kyle Whittingham divorce

A Yahoo Sports column by Dan Wolken, published October 28, 2026, examines the contrasting fortunes of Utah and Michigan following the coaching transition away from longtime Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham. Utah has been performing well under its new direction, while Michigan has been struggling in a middling position, suggesting Utah made the right call in moving on from Whittingham at the right time. The piece argues that replacing a program legend slightly early is preferable to waiting too long.
