Wolverhampton sprinter Matthew Hudson-Smith gets stand naming honour for European Athletics Championships

Wolverhampton sprinter Matthew Hudson-Smith has been honoured with the naming of a stand extension at the Birmingham 2026 European Athletics Championships venue after him, ahead of the event running August 10-16. Hudson-Smith, a European record-holder and the second-most decorated male European athlete in history, was surprised by the announcement and called it 'the icing on the cake' of his career. The Championships, the first European Athletics Championships held in the UK, are expected to deliver a £30 million economic boost to the West Midlands region.
