World Cup 2026: FIFA revokes credentials of Paraguayan broadcaster after profane on-air rant against Gianni Infantino, referee

Paraguayan broadcaster Jorge 'Chipi' Vera had his FIFA World Cup 2026 credentials revoked after delivering an expletive-filled on-air rant during Paraguay's match against Türkiye on Friday, June 20, 2026. Vera was outraged when referee Ivan Barton issued a red card to Paraguay's Miguel Almirón in the first half for allegedly saying something to Türkiye's Mert Müldür while covering his mouth — the first such red card of the tournament under FIFA's anti-racial abuse rules. Vera, who called FIFA president Gianni Infantino a thief during the broadcast, has since apologized for his remarks.
