World-record 53 red cards in Brazilian U20s match

A world record of 53 red cards was set during an under-20 semifinal match in Minas Gerais, Brazil, on Sunday, between Mamoré and Uberlândia in the state league's second tier. A mass brawl broke out in the second half after Mamoré went 3-1 up and a player taunted the opposition bench, leading referee Fernando Patrick Drosghic Modesto to dismiss 40 players, eight staff, and two board members, with three players already having been sent off earlier. The previous Guinness World Record was 36 red cards, set in an Argentine fifth division match in February 2011.
