WRC: Elfyn Evans becomes world champion after late Oliver Solberg crash

Elfyn Evans claimed his first World Rally Championship title after rival Oliver Solberg crashed in the closing metres of the final stage of Rally Italia Sardegna. Solberg, representing Sweden, had been on course to overtake Evans in the standings on the very last stage, which would have denied the Welshman the title. Evans, a five-time runner-up, becomes Britain's first world rally champion in 25 years, having won just two of 13 races in the 2026 WRC season alongside co-driver Scott Martin.
