WTA adopts SRY gene testing to protect fair competition in women's professional tennis
The Women's Tennis Association (WTA) has adopted SRY gene testing as its new standard for determining eligibility in women's professional tennis. The policy replaces the previous framework that allowed transgender-identifying males to compete provided they met testosterone level requirements. The SRY gene test is intended to protect fair competition by establishing a genetic basis for participation in the women's tour.
