WTA to require tennis players to undergo genetic sex testing
The Women's Tennis Association (WTA) has announced a new policy requiring all players to undergo genetic sex testing in order to compete on the WTA Tour, with the policy coming into effect on Tuesday. Players will be required to provide a cheek swab, blood, or saliva sample to test for the presence of the SRY gene, which is part of the Y chromosome and is responsible for causing male characteristics to develop. The testing is a one-time requirement under the updated women's eligibility policy.
