WTA: Tour announces mandatory SRY gene test for players to determine their sex in order to compete

The WTA has announced a mandatory one-time SRY gene test for all players to determine biological sex, with the new policy coming into effect on Tuesday. Players who refuse testing will face disciplinary action. The policy replaces previous WTA rules that allowed transgender women to compete provided they maintained lower testosterone levels for two years, though no transgender women are currently known to be competing on the WTA Tour.
