Yan and Russell reign supreme in Xiamen with second-best marks in history
At the Diamond League meeting in Xiamen on 23 May 2026, China's Yan Ziyi threw a javelin distance of 71.74m — an Asian record and the second-best mark in history, behind only Barbora Špotáková's 2008 world record of 72.28m. Yan, a former world U20 champion, became just the sixth athlete ever to surpass 70 metres and the fourth to exceed 71 metres. American Masai Russell also posted the second-best performance in history in the 100m hurdles, clocking 12.14 seconds at the same event.
