Yankees push back Gerrit Cole’s start a day in unusual move
The New York Yankees have pushed back ace Gerrit Cole's scheduled Sunday start by one day, with prospect Elmer Rodríguez taking his place on the mound instead. Manager Aaron Boone explained the decision was driven by the team playing 16 games in 16 days, and the desire to give each starting pitcher an extra day of rest rather than pitching on regular rest three times in a row. Cole, who holds a 2-1 record with a 2.57 ERA in five starts, will now pitch Monday's series opener in Detroit.
