Yanks' past, present, future coincide as Cole hits milestone -- and kids steal show

Gerrit Cole struck out nine batters over seven innings on August 8, 2026, becoming the fastest pitcher in Yankees franchise history to reach 1,000 strikeouts, outdueling Chris Sale in the process. Rookie George Lombard Jr. hit his second career home run and fellow rookie Spencer Jones drove in two runs to support Cole's effort. The New York Yankees defeated the Atlanta Braves 5-4 at Yankee Stadium on Old-Timers' Day.
