Yanks ride Massachusetts natives Schlittler, Rice to Game 1 win over Sox

The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox 9-0 in Game 1 of the American League Wild Card Series at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday. Cam Schlittler, a Massachusetts native and Walpole native who grew up a Red Sox fan, struck out 10 batters over 6 1/3 scoreless innings, while fellow Massachusetts native Ben Rice hit two home runs including a grand slam, driving in six runs. Teams that take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three Wild Card Series have gone on to win 21 of 24 times (88%).
